About GoodSeeing
A fast, free, worldwide forecast of astronomical observing conditions.
Amateur astronomers have had observing forecasts on the web for over twenty years, and the good ones are genuinely beloved. Most are also limited to North America, rebuild static images on a fixed schedule, and were built for a desktop web that no longer exists.
GoodSeeing takes the same idea — forecast the things astronomers care about, not the things a general weather app cares about — and rebuilds it for anywhere on Earth, rendered at the edge in milliseconds, readable on the phone in your pocket at a dark site, with a red night-vision theme for when you are already dark-adapted.
It is free to use and supported by advertising. We publish our full method rather than asking you to trust a black box.
Data and credits
Weather forecasts come from the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (MET Norway), used under NLOD 2.0 / CC BY 4.0. Place names and coordinates come from GeoNames under CC BY 4.0. Solar and lunar positions are computed with standard published algorithms.
GoodSeeing is independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by, or derived from any other forecasting service.
